Pohutakwa Coast
I moved to Beachlands about 3 months ago and I am in love with the area. Every afternoon I drive home to the beach... what's not to love?! The feeling of peace and tranquility that comes across as you drive out of the rat race of the city and towards the Pohutakawa Coast is priceless. The view from my living room window is of Waiheke Island - in its entirity and to the left I can see Rangitoto. On a summer's day the view is quite spectacular!
The area comprises Pine Harbour, Beachlands, Maraetai and Omana and we are blessed with a beach in each town. Every one has its own unique feel and imparts a different experience so you can take your pick according to your mood.

Field Day
Went down to Mystery Creek this weekend to the Field Day - a first for me. The largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, there was stalls there for pretty much everything. Wal would have been proud. From and the humble gumboot and merino wool socks to new tools and technologies everything farming was on show and so much more besides...
dirt bike stunts
The whip cracking demonstration certainly caught my attention - especially when I caught a glimpse of a spark! The Inaugural Bachelor of the Year competition also was an interesting addition... Caught a glimpse of wood chopping and sculpting and browsed the relocatables.
whip cracking boy
We were too late to take in the crops, grains and soil testing but did get to see some interesting farm animals!
We escaped the one shower and took in some NZ wines from the Manawatu and delicacies from the food tent.
Taking a step out of my comfort zone into the mud proved to be not so implausible.

Cliff's Wedding
My baby brother, Cliff is finally a married man! The wedding took place on the 21st March in a vineyard in St Eliza, Melbourne and the family made the pilgrimmage across the ditch for the special occasion.
Cliff had thought of everything and the setting was perfect. The ceremony took place in a garden with the vineyard in the background and Cliff was his relaxed self, smiling from ear to ear and cracking jokes.
The dinner, speeches and dancing were held in a big marquee. Cliff and Ange performed a dance to "Lady Marmalade" and Cliff played the tom toms with the band. It was, quite simply, a magical wedding!
